The Old Station Nursery Ltd is a young and dynamic company which operates children’s day nurseries and out-of-school-clubs in Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and Berkshire.
Our nurseries are designed to provide a secure, comfortable and stimulating environment for children from birth to 5 years of age. We also operate after-school clubs provide a relaxing and caring atmosphere for children aged between 4 and 11 years. We opened our first nursery in 2002 and since then the company has grown steadily, creating a similar environment in each nursery and building on our ethos of a ‘home-from-home’ for your child. A team of qualified and experienced staff in each setting offers warmth, care and opportunities to learn, so that your child can develop and grow in an ideal environment.
We offer full day care or part-day sessions, as well as out of school care and are registered to receive Nursery Education Funding to help you to offset the cost of nursery sessions for 3 and 4 year olds. We also help you to explore all the possible avenues for help with childcare costs, including advice on tax credits and employer childcare voucher schemes. We are also taking part in the offer of free sessions for eligible 2 year olds at all our nurseries.
All children have a key carer, who is responsible for their needs during their time at nursery. This will include making observations on your child’s development as well as giving meals and feeds and carrying out nappy changes or potty training, as appropriate. You will be included in your child’s day at nursery through daily diaries and record sheets (for younger children) and notice boards and conversations (for older children). Our nursery policy requires all staff to be inclusive of all families, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexuality and disability. We recognise the diversity of families in the 21st century and welcome all families into our settings, including LGBT families.
We are also able to access Early Years Pupil Premium, to support those children who may need some extra support when they start nursery. For more information about this, do click here: EYPP information
You are welcome to our nurseries at any time, we have an open door policy and want you to feel free to drop in whenever you like and see what is going on.
Registration and staffing
All nurseries and clubs within our group are registered with Ofsted, which carries out regular formal inspections. Our most recent inspection reports are available for you to view on the Ofsted website. The inspections ensure that we meet the standards required by Ofsted, including those specified by Environmental Health, the Fire Department and the Health and Safety Executive.
Our team of staff in each nursery and club is carefully chosen to reflect a balance of formal qualifications and experience, coupled with a genuine enjoyment of caring for children. The manager, deputy manager and all supervisors are qualified to at least NNEB/NVQ Level III standard, as are at least half of our nursery nurses. Many of our Nursery Assistants are also working towards these qualifications. We are very committed to staff training and development and have recently been awarded ‘Investors In People’ status, which we are very proud of.
Sarah Steel started the first Old Station Nursery in 2002 when she was looking for good quality childcare for her own children. She has a background in management within the Army and civilian industry and brings her experience as a parent to the development of each nursery.
Sarah is supported by a dedicated Head Office Team, including Lynette Jacobs (Finance Manager) and Emma Pittam, Quality and Training Manager.
Between us we have a variety of qualifications and experience in the business and childcare sector, as well as 4 children and feel passionate about what we do at The Old Station Nursery!
