Innsworth nursery is expanding!

July 24th, 2017 by Sarah Steel

We are very excited to have signed the lease today for the old Noah’s Ark Nursery site just around the corner from our Innsworth Nursery in Gloucestershire. We have a major refurbishment starting later this week and the new nursery will open in September, operating closely with our existing nursery. Julie Rees, our outstanding nursery manager, will oversee both sites, ably supported by Amy Barwick as deputy manager in the existing nursery and Emily Parslow and deputy manager of the new Mottershead Drive site. We will let you know as soon as we’re ready for visitors!

Children at The Old Station Nursery, Oxford Science Park, were pirates for the day last week, when they launched their new pirate ship and refurbished outdoor area. The pirate ship was officially launched by Piers Scrimshaw-Wright, MD of the Science Park, and Ramona Kantschuster, Nursery Manager, with her merry band of pirate helpers! For the full story visit:

Filkins Nursery awarded Millie’s Mark

May 17th, 2017 by Sarah Steel

Our Filkins Nursery team have just been awarded Millie’s Mark for Excellence in First Aid, after several months of work to prepare for it. Having the Millie’s Mark award demonstrates their commitment to going above and beyond the minimum requirements for keeping children safe. It shows that all staff working directly with children not only hold a paediatric first aid certificate but that they are also competent in how to apply this in practice. Achieving Millie’s Mark shows that they have the correct procedures and documentation in place and gives parents that greater reassurance.

It is a process that has taken you between three and six months and ensured that they have worked as a team to fulfil the Millie’s Mark criteria and ensure that staff are able to keep children safe and minimise the risks and accidents.

Nursery Manager, Louise Jenkins said, “We are delighted to be the first nursery in the Old Station Nursery Group to achieve Millie’s Mark, and we have been sharing our learning with our other nurseries, so that we can all be more confident in our First Aid practice and our ability to keep children safe in our nurseries. We will be celebrating on 23rd June with all our parents, children and staff, as this is a real achievement for all the team.”

At long last, the Government have announced the new website which brings together information on the various types of help available for parents with the costs of childcare. This includes details on eligibility for Tax-Free Childcare and information about the 30 hour childcare offer in September 17. Do have a look and see if this is useful to you:

Our managers will do their best to answer your questions as well, but due to a distinct lack of information for providers, we are still firming up how we will offer the 30 hours of funded childcare in each location.

Childcare Choices is launched by Government

March 22nd, 2017 by Sarah Steel

Today the Government finally published it’s new website to inform parents of the various options that are available to support them with the costs of childcare. Various updates have been circulated to early years providers, so here is one to share with you all from

“Childcare Choices, the cross-government childcare brand and campaign has launched today, providing parents with a single point of information for all the government funded childcare offers, including the two new offers: 30hours free childcare and Tax Free Childcare.

Launch of new Childcare Choices website means parents now able to find available government support.

Millions of parents can pre-register from today for the government’s new childcare offers, with the launch of a new Childcare Choices government website

The introduction of the government’s Tax-Free Childcare scheme will begin on 28 April, for parents of the youngest children. It will be gradually rolled out over 2017 – cutting childcare costs for working families across the UK by up to £2,000 per child per year, or £4,000 for disabled children.

On top of this, from September this year parents of three and four year old children living in England will be able to apply for a new 30 hours free childcare offer, worth around £5,000 per child.

The Childcare Choices website includes a Childcare Calculator ( for parents to compare all the government’s childcare offers and check what works best for their families.

Through the site parents can also pre-register for email alerts that will notify them when they can apply, as well as providing details of existing government childcare offers.”

Many parents have complained that there has been very limited information about the various strands available, and it has been hard to make any plans so far. However, now things should be a little clearer and we will certainly be on hand to help with information as much as we can.
