Ofsted Outstanding
Outdoor learning
The Good Manors Day Nursery Manor Lodge team is proud to offer the Fareham community a unique experience. Our Outstanding Ofsted-rated provision is a place where children receive excellent care and flourish in a setting unlike any other.
The unique setting of our carefully converted grade 2 listed building is often the starting point of many adventures to local points of interest, and we can frequently be seen at Fareham Library, Bath Park, the traditional market and other local places guided by the interests amongst our children.
At our Fareham day nursery, we understand the importance of outdoor play in children’s development. That’s why our large outdoor area is spaced into distinct areas for children of all ages and stages of development, providing ample space for them to explore, learn, and play with age-appropriate and natural resources.
For our older children, we know that every child’s journey to school is unique, and at Manor Lodge, our Next Stop School program is designed to support them at their own pace. By building confidence, independence, and a love for learning, we ensure they step into school feeling happy, excited, and fully prepared for this new adventure.
Early years education in science, mathematics and reading is fun and takes place indoors and outdoors, whatever the weather. In the garden, a water area has a pump for children to pump water and excitedly watch it flow down and under a small stream and bridge. A construction area stocked with stones has large scales for measuring and encourages mathematical language, whilst a sensory area allows children to experience different smells and textures.
There is also an area for the children to explore the world around them, with a bug hotel and a vegetable patch. The outside space also houses a space we call “The Lodge Pod”, where children can continue their learning with activities such as mark-making and arts and crafts.

The Brighter Learning Approach (BLA) is unique to The Old Station Nursery group and is our advanced approach to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and core pedagogy. It differs from traditional nursery teaching methods by providing real-life opportunities to enhance children’s natural curiosity, with emphasis on hands-on experiences, child-led learning, and whole development.
The six core areas promote active engagement and critical thinking whilst encouraging exploration, creativity, and collaboration. Each child learns at their own pace and is challenged and extended at appropriate times.
The best place to see the BLA in action is via our local nursery Facebook page, where each post explains which part of the curriculum the children are working on. Our parents also receive updates on the Parent App too.
Championing children's holistic health and laying the foundations for a happy, healthy and successful life.
Helping the future generation of global citizens to understand the world they live in and to believe they can make a difference.
Enabling early experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM). Nurturing our next generation of investigators, inventors and innovators.
Enticing children to develop a life-long love of books and reading through engaging and interactive storytelling experiences. Building strong literacy skills while sparking imagination and creativity.
Engaging children in meaningful mathematical learning. Developing knowledge, building skills and exploring concepts, through purposeful play and plenty of practice.
Developing confident communicators by engaging in quality conversations with children every day, in a language rich and communication friendly environment.
We are fortunate to have a lovely outdoor space at our Fareham nursery, so our events and activities often take place outside. Parents are encouraged to join their children in enjoying the space with frequent picnics and events such as decorating doughnuts for a Father’s Day treat and a Mother’s Day tea party.
Our Brighter Learning Approach complements the Early Years Statutory Framework with additional clubs to enhance children’s learning and support readiness for school.
There are many opportunities to learn about personal hygiene and the importance of washing our hands before we start each cookery session. Our chef talks children through ingredients, where they come from and the different ways they can be used in cooking.
With the aid of a ‘cool touch’ oven, child-safe equipment and the children’s chef’s hats and aprons we follow a set curriculum to learn about the joys of cooking and gain lifelong skills such as measuring, counting and following set instructions.
Come rain or shine, we tend our vegetable plots, teaching the children about the different stages of growth cycles and exploring the different tastes and textures of the produce. As Budding gardeners, children learn about the environment and gain lifelong sustainable growing skills and enjoyment, which they will carry with them throughout their lives.
Budding musicians can explore different instruments at our children’s nursery, as well as enjoying rhythmic games, and participating in interactive sing-along sessions. They’ll discover the joy of creating melodies, understanding beats, and expressing themselves through music. Each activity is carefully crafted to inspire a love for music and develop their auditory skills in a fun and engaging environment.
Children learn so much during their early years and take great joy in exploring the world around them. At our nursery they’re immersed into the world of Science through age appropriate hands-on experiments and activities designed to spark their curiosity.
Children at Good Manors Day Nursery Manor Lodge can choose equipment to express their inner artist. Mark-making and patterns encourage fine motor skills when spraying paint from bottles and pressing down shapes onto paper. Children love our crazy soap activity, which involves sensory exploration and different resources to make marks and colour the foam. The messier, the better for our budding artists, who share excitement while experimenting with colour mixing to make ‘potions’.
Dress-up and role-play are encouraged and welcomed at our Fareham nursery, and children enjoy participating in activities such as fancy dress for Comic Relief and dressing as their favourite book characters for World Book Day.
Children at our Fareham nursery can enjoy the movement and mental health benefits of yoga in our weekly sessions. An external instructor joins us to support and encourage physical development, where children sit on yoga position mats, rotating around the room to try new ones and seeing how long they can balance and hold each position.
Our nursery group is passionate about the link between home and nursery; the nursery experience is as much about the parent as it is for the child.
Good Manors Day Nursery Manor Lodge commits to verbally updating you about your child’s day at pick-up time and via digital updates on the parent App.
We are here at any time should you wish to call us or want to discuss any area of your child’s care. We aim to look after our parents as well as our children so you can carry on with your day, work and career with a sense of peace.
First and foremost, you and we need to know that your child is safe. Before we can deliver the excellent curriculum that makes our nurseries so special, robust policies and procedures are followed to meet the exacting standards of Ofsted, building and fire regulations, food safety standards and staff DBS background checks and references.
Our staff are trained in numerous areas and we offer further training opportunities for staff who have an interest in a particular area.
For example, some of our nurseries have attained Millie’s Mark, an accreditation gained by having 100% of staff on site trained in paediatric first aid.
All our meals are prepared on-site by our in-house chef. Menus rotate three weekly and change with the seasons to create variety and use the freshest ingredients.
Food intolerances and dietary preferences are taken seriously at our Fareham nursery and are carefully accounted for during the preparation and serving of meals.
Every child has a nursery key person who knows them best and who will be the child and parent’s main contact. Your key person at our nursery will update you about your child’s day and is there to answer your questions.
When your child moves to the next age group room, we hold several settling sessions with a new nursery key person.
We encourage our parents to view the new room too, and we will work with you to discuss the new routines, just like we did when you first started nursery.
It is wonderful to nurture and see our children graduate to primary school. Part of the unique offering at our nurseries is our focus on the next stage of your child’s learning journey. We prepare the children through school activities, teacher meet and greets and graduation ceremonies. Our commitment is to support our parents too by providing child learning journey updates, parents evenings or one-to-ones and home link learning kits to enhance the link between nursery and home.
When our children leave us in June, July, August and September the term before joining primary school, each family will receive a £30 Clarks voucher to help towards your child’s first pair of school shoes. It’s our way of saying thank you for being part of our nursery family.
All our nurseries follow the Brighter Learning Approach to the Early Years Statutory Framework, our bespoke curriculum. Within this, each nursery chooses extra clubs, activities, and enhancements suitable for their space.
Good Manors Day Nursery Manor Lodge has a special home-from-home feel where children are encouraged and supported to try new activities provided by our staff team and external professionals as part of our Budding Chefs, Budding Movers and Budding Artists’ clubs. We also hold open days where parents and carers are encouraged to come along and meet other parents to build their own personal friendships and networks ahead of primary school.
Good Manors Day Nursery Manor Lodge commits to providing a simple fee structure so you can manage your nursery costs.
At this nursery, we provide private and government-funded sessions for eligible parents. Contact us for the nursery fee that is correct for your individual circumstances.
We have three rooms at Good Manors Day Nursery Manor Lodge in Fareham that nurture and support children at their own pace. Babies only reside on the first floor whilst indoors, allowing free flow between three conjoining rooms. Once they begin to become mobile, this allows them to explore and choose their preferred activities.
Babies’ natural curiosity is supported by various experiences that support their brain development through these first important early years. Routines from home are followed, including sleep and feed times, to support a smooth transition to nursery life for both baby and parent.
Open communication between nursery and home means we can follow your pace when new routines are introduced as baby grows.
When the time comes to transition to another room, key carers at our Fareham nursery begin a detailed handover to the next room’s staff team. Children commence visits a month or more before for short periods of time, building this up over time. This allows children to build relationships with their peers and new carers for comfort and reassurance when it comes to a permanent move.
Tweenies are based downstairs, allowing free flow into the garden for continued learning and exploration. We predominantly support children’s personal and social development, concentrating on building strong social skills, supporting independence, and helping them become aware of the surroundings and people around them through a wide range of daily activities that consider every child’s individual needs and interests.
Our preschool room supports further independence. Supported by our experienced and qualified team, they choose their own activities, serve their own lunch, and put on their own coats and clothes.
The preschool room at our Fareham nursery takes every child’s needs into account when planning activities to support every child to develop at their own pace.
When children transition to school, teachers visit to meet them, and we complete any forms the school requires, as well as share an end-of-nursery report with the school. To help prepare children, we have school clothes to dress up in, books that discuss school, and engage in role-play activities.
“We pride ourselves on making the nursery feel like a home from home at Good Manors Day Nursery Manor Lodge. We offer a wide range of activities to cater for all developmental levels. We support children in developing at their own individual pace and make the nursery a fun and stimulating environment for all.”
